I am excited about this post, because the entire look (head to toe) is under $150.  I saw this picture of Blake Lively and got inspired to mix and match prints using my houndstooth cords.  I planned to post this picture of Blake/my take on it a while ago, but It wasn’t until this very moment that I spied a friend of mine in the picture standing behind her. Such a small world sometimes!

Mixings prints can be really cool or a total disaster.  It’s not the easiest to tackle, but when done right it can be really chic. Here are some tips to mixing and matching prints…

  1. Try combing florals with neutral stripes
  2. For a safer bet, mix prints that are close to the same color (like I did above)
  3. If mixing a textured piece (ex tweed) finish it off with a softer texture (ex silky sheer)
  4. Try to mirror something from one printed piece to the other printed piece (ex tuxedo stripe pants and a top with a print that also includes a horizontal stripe)
  5. Combine loose prints with structured prints
